Strength Comparison between EN10025 S235JR and S355JR
So which one for your project? Think about stress and weight. If your structure carries significant dynamic loads or spans long distances, S355JR saves steel – sometimes 30% less weight for the same job. That cuts shipping and fabrication costs. But if your application is simple – like a warehouse mezzanine or a fence post – S235JR is more than enough and easier on the budget.
One more thing: weldability. Both are low-carbon and weld nicely with common procedures. However, S355JR may need slightly better filler metal and preheating for thicker sections.
Don't over-spec. Use S235JR for light duty, cost-sensitive projects. Reach for S355JR when strength matters or you want to slim down the structure. Match the grade to the real load – not the fear.
